Streamlining Your Immigration Journey
Navigating the visa application process can be complex. Understanding how applications are allocated and the possibility of escalating your application can significantly impact your immigration journey. This blog post aims to clarify the process of application allocation and the criteria for escalation requests within New Zealand's immigration system.
Application Allocation: A First-Come, First-Served Basis
Applications for visas, employer accreditation, and Job Checks are typically allocated based on the date of receipt, with the oldest applications being processed first. Allocation means assigning your application to an immigration officer for assessment.
Urgent Allocation: The Escalation Request
In certain situations, you may request urgent allocation, known as an 'escalation request'. This allows your application to be prioritized by an immigration officer. However, it's important to note that travel bookings alone are not considered a valid reason for urgent allocation.
Visa Escalation Process: How It Works
To submit an escalation request, you must meet specific criteria. Your request is then assessed by the visa escalation team, who will inform you whether it has been accepted.
Eligibility for Escalation Requests
Applications submitted less than five days ago generally cannot be escalated, to allow sufficient time for proper system entry. Additionally, if your application is already assigned to an immigration officer, it cannot be escalated as it is already under assessment.
Criteria for Escalation Requests
Your request must demonstrate:
compelling personal or business circumstances,
humanitarian factors, or
matters of national interest.
These criteria are crucial for your request to be considered.
Additional Requirements for Specific Applications
Different visa categories, such as the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, and others, may have additional requirements and criteria for escalation.
Submitting Your Escalation Request
To make an escalation request, you must be the main applicant or their legal representative. The request should be sent to visaescalations@mbie.govt.nz, including essential details like the applicant's name, application number, and compelling reasons for urgent allocation.
Assessment of Escalation Requests
The visa escalation team assesses each request based on the provided information and the application's circumstances. They consider personal circumstances, humanitarian factors, and national interest.
Response to Your Escalation Request
You will be notified via email within 2 to 5 working days whether your request is accepted. If accepted, the team will inform you of the likely start date for assessing your application.
Checking Your Visa Application Status
You can check the status of your visa application at any time, regardless of whether your escalation request is accepted.
A Guided Approach to Visa Application
Understanding the allocation and escalation process is key to navigating New Zealand's immigration system effectively. Remember, an accepted escalation request does not guarantee application approval or a shorter assessment time. All applications undergo standard assessment processes and criteria.
